UNV participates in IVCO 2017 and demonstrates the importance of partnerships in volunteering
The 2017 International Volunteer Cooperation Organisations’ Conference (IVCO 2017) takes place from 22 to 25 October in Seoul, Republic of Korea. IVCO aims at providing a platform for volunteer involving organizations to create and demonstrate innovative and transformative partnerships through volunteering.

COP23: Bula and Bonn zones are growing fast
The preparations for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 23) in Bonn are in full swing. Following the beginning of the construction phase on 14th of August, the organisers have only about two months left to build an impressive array of temporary buildings in order to welcome more than 25,000 delegates and visitors. Build on an area of 35,000 square meters, the flooring will cover a surface of 50,000 square meters.
Germany strengthens UN Peacekeeping
At a visit to Bonn, UN Under Secretary-General for Peacekeeping, Jean-Pierre Lacroix and German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen agreed on a stronger cooperation and support for UN peacekeeping. During an official ceremony at Bonn city hall, von der Leyen pointed out that the United Nations are a central achievement of our time and added that Germany will provide greater support for UN missions by lending financial, political and training support. Under Secretary-General Lacroix welcomed Germany’s contribution, in terms of financial support and logistics.
World Humanitarian Day 2017
Every year, World Humanitarian Day brings the world together to rally support for people affected by humanitarian crisis and pay tribute to the aid workers who help them. This year, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) joins OCHA’s global campaign to reaffirm that civilians caught in conflict are #NotATarget and to demand global action to protect them.
UNV partners with UNFPA to provide humanitarian relief
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) works closely with UN Volunteers to ensure that reproductive health is integrated into emergency responses.Over the past ten years, there have been more than 500 UN Volunteer assignments with UNFPA across the world. During conflicts, natural disasters and other emergencies, sexual and reproductive health needs are easily overlooked – yet these needs are often staggering.
