Public Review of IPBES nexus assessement has started
In an open letter Dr Anne Larigauderie, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), informed stakeholders that the First external review of the IPBES nexus assessment (first draft of the chapters) has started. The review will focus on the thematic assessment of the interlinkages among biodiversity, water, food and health (nexus assessment). It’ll be open for six weeks until 19 February 2023.
UNFCCC recaps COP15
The United Nation Environment Programme’s Biodiversity Conference (COP15) in Montreal was an important event for the United Nations Framework on Combating Climate Change as well (UNFCCC). For UNFCCC it is excellent news that the participants have reached an agreement that represents a key step in protecting the world’s lands and oceans and bolsters efforts to safeguard the world’s climate by committing to protect 30% of land and water considered important for biodiversity by 2030.
UNEP/CMS plans fourth conference on Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Sharks
For the fourth time, the Signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Sharks will meet for their SHARKS MOS4 conference in Bonn from 28 February 2023 to 1 March 2023. The meeting is organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP/CMS). Delegates from the many Participating States, who must be accredited by their respective governments, will participate.

A new step towards strengthening partnerships for conservation of East African Community’s transboundary wildlife resources
Experts from around the region met this week at the East African Community (EAC) Pavilion to discuss the establishment and operationalisation of an EAC Transboundary Wildlife Conservation Areas Network among other salient issues pertaining to management of protected areas. The idea of creating such a network was endorsed by the EAC’s Sectoral Council for Tourism and Wildlife Management during its 10th Meeting that was held from 27th – 30th June 2022 at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
IPBES-9 Plenary Started Yesterday in Bonn
The ninth session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES 9) started yesterday in Bonn. IPBES welcomed 139 Member States, Observers, and Stakeholders to the 9th Plenary Session running from 3 to 9 July 2022.

The ninth session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES 9) is planned to be held in Bonn, Germany, from 3 to 9 July 2022.
As communicated in the annotated provisional agenda, provision has been made for duly registered members of delegations to view the proceedings online.

Avian Influenza Continues to Impact Wild Migratory Birds: The Case of Prespa National Park
On March 11 2022, an outbreak of avian influenza was reported at the Prespa National Park, in Greece, resulting in mass mortality events that have severely impacted the Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus) nesting population found in the Lesser Prespa Lake.
